Description
A Luxembourgish passport is a travel document issued by the State which enables its holders to be identified by foreign authorities.
The Luxembourgish passport is established according to the standards for security features and biometrics in the passports of EU citizens.
The biometric passport includes an electronic chip containing the holder’s identity picture, two images of his/her digital fingerprints, and an image of the signature.
Since the introduction of biometric passports, the State issues one document per holder, so that each child has its own passport.
A passport is only required if the holder travels to a country that requires one, which are most foreign countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA). When required by third countries, entry and visitor visas are stamped in the passport.
Note: before travelling, it is advisable to verify that the passport has sufficient validity for the stay in all the countries to be visited. Some countries only grant entry visas to persons who have a passport valid for at least another 6 months after the expiration date of the visa applied for.
WHO IS CONCERNED
Every person of Luxembourg nationality can apply for a passport provided they:
reside in the Grand Duchy and plan to go to a foreign country, especially outside the EU, for which a passport is required;

Children are not listed on their parents’ passports and need their own passport.
